When cannabis was legalized here, Illinois Leadership sold us on the idea that the licensing of everything from grow houses, through processors, to dispensaries would be tilted to heavily favor colored businesses and communities. It's frustrating to be over 18 months into the licensing process and still have so many eager entrepreneurs waiting to hear whether or not the State will license them. I just saw a story on CBS Chicago about how two white owned dispensaries were licensed despite being over 1000 feet closer to each other than the law claims to allow. You see stories about hopeful entrepreneurs giving up hope after waiting for the State to do anything for nearly two years.
This shouldn't be that hard, Illinois. Give colored communities the licenses, help, and support they need to get started and thrive!
